GDF SUEZ : World leader in energy and environment

Electricity, natural gas, drinking water, recycling, and service development and provision: these are just a few of the global issues addressed when a world leader in the energy and environment industries is hiring. At GDF SUEZ, we know that this sustainable future will not be possible without you.

Interview: GDF SUEZ – A wide choice of careers

This year, GDF SUEZ will once again be a partner of the CDMGE Academic Challenge. For Philippe Lazzarotto, Senior Campus Manager, the first sports challenge was innovative and a resounding success. It was also a fantastic opportunity for dialogue between the 40 GDF SUEZ employees who worked the stands and the over 1,000 students who came to learn more about careers in energy and the environment.

What was your impression of the first CDMGE Academic Challenge?

The first word that comes to mind when recalling that day is "enthusiasm". That was the main impression I took away from that exceptional event since it drew 3,000 students to Stade Charléty to enjoy the various sports events, debate social responsibility, and meet with countless spokespeople for various careers. Our stand was never empty. When I got there at about 7:30 and saw the atmosphere even before reaching the stadium doors, I knew it was going to be brilliant... and it was, all day long, right up until the prizes were handed out alongside champions such as Stéphane Diagana and Jean-Charles Trouabal!

What sets this event apart from other campus relations activities in which you participate the rest of the year?

Forty employees manned the stand while twenty others competed in the semi-marathon relay wearing the GDF SUEZ colours. Around fifteen new hires from graduate schools also competed with the student teams. For a new group like ours, the Challenge was also a fantastic opportunity for the representatives of our various business lines to meet with students from prestigious schools. Finally, it was very interesting to take part in the partnership along with other major companies. Right away, it gives you a comprehensive idea of the business sectors that are recruiting and that might interest new graduates. In 2010, we want to keep the same spirit with a mixture of sport, debate on social responsibility and networking. Our additional goal this year will be to open the Challenge to universities, and to include more international schools.

What is your hiring outlook?

Our need for recent graduates embraces the next five years or more. GDF SUEZ has a considerable need for young talent in all of its business lines. Our Group offers great potential for a varied career. The Challenge is a wonderful occasion to learn more about those careers first-hand. It isn't suitable for direct hiring, but often, that first contact with our representatives can lead to internships, international corporate volunteering, or a first job, as with Florian and Romain.
