Watch the Carrefour spirit unfurl at the CDMGE Academic Challenge
Carrefour, Europe's largest retail group and the world's second largest, believes in the work it accomplishes with socially-responsible, attentive and positive customers, consumers and employees. These values are the Group's strength. This year, the Group has joined the CDMGE Academic Challenge as a partner of the second edition. "This event brings us together. Presenting the Group in this context, through our employees, helps us project a positive, authentic image. What attracted Carrefour was the idea of meeting young people in a spirit of good sportsmanship. With its atmosphere of fun, its participants rallying together for victory and its attention to disabilities, the Challenge encourages dialogue in a setting that is in tune with our values".""
Showing what Carrefour stands for
The Challenge is therefore a chance to present the Group in the field during the careers fair and sports events, in the stands, and through workshops and employee-student mentoring students. "By spending an entire day together enjoying exciting sports events, we can create close relationships and initiate genuine dialogue, talking about everything and not just a person’s résumé." Mentors are currently being chosen at Carrefour, with a view to demonstrating the diversity of the Group's managers. From recent graduates and top executives, head office employees to supermarket and hypermarket staff, they have the scoop on line marketing, supply chain, market lines, purchasing, merchandising, aisle and store management, and the financial management of a listed company.
Diversity is a major characteristic of the Group, both in its values and in its management style. Can you explain?
Our employees often work in a supermarket close to their own home. They are everyday people like our clients. Because our workers are diverse, our commitment to diversity comes that much more easily. We have an agreement with the French employment agency, Pôle Emploi, to ease the transition from work to school. We are heavily involved in the underprivileged suburbs where we work alongside mentors. We also offer literacy programmes and professional development. Carrefour has also signed a corporate agreement on disabilities. We employ 5,000 disabled people in France, and 9,000 worldwide. In several countries, we carry out integration initiatives for disabled individuals. We also raise disability awareness amongst our managers and train them in adapted management techniques.
