BOUYGUES TELECOM, Telecoms, TV and Internet

"Joining the Challenge was the obvious thing to do"

"Bouygues Telecom has been deeply involved in several sports events since 1997, practically since the company's inception. Bouygues Telecom's careers are relatively technical (especially networks and IT), but there are also opportunities in sales. There are currently several openings, so the Group is keenly interested in meeting students at this Challenge".

Founded in 1994, Bouygues Telecom boasts 10 million mobile phone clients and 8,650 employees. The company aims to "become the preferred brand for telecom, TV and Internet services" and to set itself apart by the welcome, advice, service and after sales assistances it offers clients.

Bouygues Telecom created France’s first telephone plan in 1996, followed by unlimited plans with the Millennium plan (1999) and neo (2006). In 2008, the company launched neo.2, a flexible plan that lets clients choose a time slot for unlimited phone calls to all operators. That same year, Bouygues Telecom acquired its own landline network and became an Internet service provider (ISP) with Bbox.

In 2009, Bouygues Telecom invented the "Tout-en-un ideo" plan, combining a complete landline, television and Internet offer with a choice of mobile plan. The company’s mobile Internet network, combining 3G+ technologies (with 79% population coverage) and Edge (over 94% population coverage), offers excellent coverage throughout France and superfast broadband access in the major cities.

In France, Bouygues Telecom provides a local public service and has been voted as the top provider of mobile phone client services for three years running*. Our customer service reps, retail network of 590 Club Bouygues Telecom shops, and website are part of our quality customer service offer.

Interview: the wisdom of age, the passion of youth

Bouygues Telecom, a telecoms and Internet operator, also recruits young engineers and sales reps from graduate schools and universities.

For Philippe Cuenot, human resources director at Bouygues Telecom, this second CDMGE Academic Challenge is a fantastic opportunity to make informal contact with the 3,000 students and recent graduates who will be in attendance at Stade Charléty. His review of a win-win partnership!

In 2010, why are you participating in the second CDMGE Academic Challenge?

The Challenge is open to students of both graduate schools and universities. That is fairly rare in the world of campus relations events. Meeting both of these student bodies is an attractive, beneficial and effective way for Bouygues Telecom to recruit employees from various backgrounds. Our involvement is also motivated by the chance for one-on-one contacts between students and employees who attend the Challenge in order to share their experiences and provide greater visibility about the various career options at Bouygues Telecom.

Speaking of which, what careers are open to recent graduates, and what profiles are most sought?

Our fields of work and expertise are highly diverse: telecoms and network positions; the ever-ubiquitous computer positions (in-house, management, CRM and others); and of course, support functions. There are also opportunities in marketing/consumer and B2B sales as well as customer relations, at the heart of our sales strategy. What we mainly look for in recent graduates is their personality, talent, energy and, above all, open-mindedness.

The CDMGE Academic Challenge places great importance on disability management in post-secondary and corporate settings. What is your Group's position on the subject?

Today, 100% of our disabled employees are hired on permanent contracts. It is a first step in making their life a little easier. Since disabled workers already face great difficulties and restrictions when it comes to finding their first job, or a new job, we prefer to hire these individuals on a permanent basis. It is one worry less for them. If required, we also provide additional training to help them perform their jobs to the best of their abilities.

What defines the spirit and heart of Bouygues Telecom as a company?

The company is fifteen years old, so it has the wisdom of age, yet it hasn't lost its dynamic, responsive and innovative spirit. We are a young company; the average age of our employees is 34. Several employees will attend Stade Charléty as team mentors, combining their job with a moment of sport. For the past three years, we have also been listed as one of the twenty Best Workplaces in France by the Great Place to Work© Institute.
